Lynwood Unified Honors Leadership During School Board Recognition Month

This January, Lynwood Unified joins school districts across the nation in recognizing board members during School Board Recognition Month for their pivotal roles in shaping policies and priorities that drive student success and well-being.

The Lynwood Unified Board of Education sets the District's foundation and vision, directs resources where they are most needed, and ensures accountability to the community by monitoring progress toward goals to support and elevate student achievement.

Under their leadership, Lynwood Unified has achieved significant milestones over the past year, including securing $80 million in school facilities funding through Measure U, expanding dual language immersion programs and career technical education pathways, and overseeing the rebuilding of Lynwood High School's Imperial campus. They have also worked to enhance academic, social-emotional, and mental health services through grant funding and led efforts to ensure third-grade students achieve reading proficiency.

During the District’s annual reorganization meeting on December 13, three re-elected board members were sworn in and the leadership was reorganized as follows:

  • Julian Del Real-Calleros, President
  • Gary Hardie, Jr., Ed.D., Vice President
  • Alfonso Morales, Esq., Clerk
  • Alma Carina Castro, Ed.D., Member
  • Maria G. Lopez, Member

Together, they lead Lynwood Unified in advancing these important initiatives, fostering excellence in and beyond the classroom and guiding the District toward an even brighter future.
