Our Namesake

 

Marco Antonio Firebaugh High School proudly carries the name of a visionary leader whose life’s work was rooted in public service, education, and advocacy for the Latino community.

Born in Tijuana, Mexico, on October 13, 1966, Marco Antonio Firebaugh rose to prominence as a dedicated and influential member of the California State Assembly, serving from 1998 until his passing in 2006. A graduate of UC Berkeley with a degree in political science and a law degree from UCLA, Firebaugh believed deeply in the power of education to uplift and transform lives.

During his time in the Assembly, he served as Majority Leader and Chairman of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, where he championed critical issues affecting not only the Latino community, but all Californians. A resident of South Gate, Firebaugh was actively pursuing a seat in the California State Senate before his untimely passing due to complications from a liver ailment.

His passion for equity, representation, and community empowerment remains the foundation of our school’s mission. At Firebaugh High School, we honor his legacy by inspiring students to lead with courage, serve with purpose, and advocate for justice — carrying forward the values Marco Antonio Firebaugh dedicated his life to.
